Gm music fans
Here’s a quick recap of everything going on in Web3 music this week.
1. Helix Records teases Web3 genesis pass
Helix Records is one of the most anticipated new record labels in the music industry.
It’s a new venture from Patrick Moxey - a music veteran who released Jay Z’s first album and founded Ultra Records (home to Deadmau5, Calvin Harris and Steve Aoki).
Now Moxey is going independent and launching Helix Records. The label will be built with a Web3 strategy from day one, including the launch of a Genesis pass.
I’ll have more information on this soon. For now, we just have the teaser video.
2. Music NFTs are part of the official UK music charts this week (again)
Web3 music platform Serenade has created an NFT format that’s eligible for the UK music charts.
1 NFT sale = 1 album sale.
Known as “digital pressings,” they helped Muse get to number 1 in 2022.
Now they’re running a campaign with Gabrielle Aplin on her new album “Phosphorescent.” The album is on track to be the highest new entry in the UK chart this week (currently top 5), backed by a handful of NFT sales.
3. Royal opens up to all artists
Founded by DJ and producer 3LAU, Royal is the leading platform for sharing streaming revenue with fans.
Until now it has been exclusively curated with drops from Diplo, Chainsmokers etc.
It’s now open to all artists for applications.
4. Astro sells out
Last week we talked about Astro - a collective of 9 leading independent artists in Web3 that released a full album of music, written together in an LA songcamp.
Since then, their project sold out (14.7 ETH) in presale.
Holders of four Astro NFTs can now burn them to reveal a hidden rare track.
5. Kids of the Apocalypse is coming
KOTA is probably the biggest music NFT project on Solana featuring a dark electro-pop soundtrack and dystopian comic-book storyline.
It’s an ambitious audio-visual project created by music industry veterans and artists. The Season 1 drop of 6,666 NFTs is coming up this month.
It also features a unique Spotify integration. If you pre-save the single “Empire” on Spotify, you get on the allowlist.
6. Hume Collective readies their next release
Hume Collective is a metaverse record label with a roster of virtual artists.
Holders of the Hume Genesis pass will get to vote on the next single for their metastar Angelbaby on January 17th.
