Gm music fans,
Here’s everything you need to know in Web3 music this week.
1. Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie and Stevie Nicks are coming to the blockchain 📷
Getty Images just announced its first NFT drop featuring iconic concert photography from the ‘70s music scene including Iggy Pop, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones and more.
The collection drops on March 21st via Candy Digital — a Web3 platform that uses the Palm blockchain.
2. Brand new Web3 music podcast 🎤
The largest media brand in the Web3 space, NFTNow has partnered with Cooper Turley to launch Invest in Music - a media outlet and podcast focused on music NTTs.
It will replace Turley’s popular This Week in Music newsletter and debut a new weekly podcast.
You can collect the Invest in Music pass via Mirror.
3. Sound.xyz launches viral chart 📈
Leading Web3 music platform Sound.xyz just launched a new viral chart which combines minting activity with play counts, playlisting, referrals and secondary sales to give a broader sense of a track’s popularity beyond pure sales metrics.
4. Limewire launches a token 🪙
Limewire raised $10 million last year and relaunched as a music NFT platform. Now it’s releasing a utility token $LMWR which will reduce fees on the site and give holders access to voting and rewards.
I’ll add a note of caution here as I’ve been tracking volume across various Web3 music platforms for the last year and Limewire has very low organic sales volume.
5. Music NFT competition draws hundreds of mints 🎧
Web3 platforms Decent.xyz and Reveel came together to host a music NFT competition with a $5,000 grant prize. Dozens of artists submitted an NFT and votes are now open. One mint = one vote.
We put together a thread with some of our favourite tracks.
6. Leading music video platform comes back to Ethereum 📺
Glass.xyz is the leading spot for music video NFTs. The platform experimented with a move to Solana last year but is returning to Ethereum (with some valuable user-experience lessons from the faster and more agile Solana).
Glass also released a new Manifesto which you can sign and mint a collectible here.
