gm music fans,
It’s been a while since I’ve seen the Sound.xyz schedule this stacked with new releases.
The music platform announced support for Optimism this week — a layer 2 solution that should reduce transaction fees by up to 90%. A huge lineup of artists are scheduled to drop music this week to celebrate.
Below we roundup some of the best drops this week on Sound and across the Web3 music ecosystem.
Discover some of the best music in Web3 through our Spinamp playlists, where we curate songs from various NFT platforms into one place.
Ziggy Ziggy Daily - Our favourite music in Web3 updated every day.
Ziggy Ziggy Breakouts - Artists at the cutting edge with potential to break into something bigger.
Ziggy Ziggy Beats - Our favourite underground dance and electronic music.
Mija
DJ Mija has achieved huge success in the traditional music industry and now a firm favourite in Web3 with 55 drops and over 1,000 collectors over the last 12 months. Her new cover of Gypsy Woman will be one of the first drops on Optimism.
Daniel Allan
LA producer Daniel Allan — who recently signed a $1 million fund raise with Coop Records — is back with Real Life. This will be his most accessible drop to date (at 0.001 ETH for existing holders).
TK
Singer TK is a superstar waiting to break out. His melodic R&B sound has already established a strong collector base thanks to his landmark EP Eternal Garden last year. Now he’s teamed up with Daniel Allan to drop his first record on Optimism this week.
Beachcrimes
The former songwriters for Chainsmokers and Halsey currently have a song going viral on TikTok (which debuted onchain first). These all-rounders are dropping one song every 2 weeks and they’re back this week with a new track 'Only Only' from their dance-heavy PM album. [Disclaimer we work with Beachcrimes].
Reo Cragun
Just as I was about to hit publish Reo Cragun uploaded ‘POPPIN’ OUT’ — also on Optimism, dropping tomorrow. The lineup keeps getting bigger!
More?
UK dance producer Sound of Fractures is dropping one of our favourite songs in a long time. It’s a true underground London sound taking inspiration from Jamie XX and a hint of Fred Again.
California singer Bloody White is back with the final track in his ponzi scheme release.
The cinematic AI project Rohki returns with Horizon.
And Green Ring — the producer behind our Ziggy Ziggy Season 1 NFT — debuts on LNRZ this week.
Of course, Sound isn’t the only place for music in Web3, and great music is flourishing across the ecosystem right now.
Every week we bring you the best music from Lens Protocol — the Web3 social layer where a thriving music community is growing.
Web2 social media platforms optimise for short-form content, making it difficult to tell deeper stories. Artist and producer Dutchyyy is breaking the rules and using Lens to tell his full 30-year backstory where the audience is more organic and less subject to algorithms. He also posted a 10-minute sample of music via Lens’ music app Riff, before dropping his entire back catalog of music across various Web3 platforms.
Zora
Cinematic music project Kids of the Apocalypse dropped their music video trailer on Zora. It’s a free collect until Saturday [disclaimer: we are involved].
Crate digging on Catalog
Catalog is the home of exclusive 1/1s - like browsing through a record store.
UK Techno producer Acutek just pressed a string of releases on Catalog. Fresh from topping the Beatport Raw/Deep/Hypnotic Techno charts with his latest EP, his early tracks are now available as 1/1s on Catalog.
Royal
Royal is a Web3 platform that enables artists to share streaming royalties with fans.
PRETTYMUCH are a [cool] boy band with a huge fan following (1 billion+ streams). They’ve been active in Web3 since going independent, and now they’re sharing royalties in their entire debut album via Royal — 3LAU’s music platform.
