Ticketmaster just launched NFT integration
+ Chainsmokers airdrop and 7 Web3 music stories this week.
gm music fans!
Before we dive into the week’s news, we have something to show you:
Ziggy Ziggy Presents: Beachcrimes
Ziggy Ziggy is growing into a full Web3 music curation company. We already post the best music every day on Twitter and curate music drops across Web3 … but we haven’t shared much music in the newsletter.
Today that’s changing and we’re introducing you to Beachcrimes.
The duo are former songwriters for Chainsmokers, Halsey and Justin Bieber. Now they’re going all-in on Web3 under their own name. From the minute they sent us their genesis track we’ve been completely obsessed and jumped at the opportunity to help them curate their first five drops. It’s simply some of the best dance/pop crossover music in the space.
Their latest track just went live on Sound.xyz — an open edition at 0.003 ETH (~$5). Click the big video below to hear it.
This will be the first of many curated artists at Ziggy, so we’d love for you to check it out. We’ll be bringing you hand-selected artists that we think you should be watching in Web3 and we’ll share more details about this in the coming months. On to the news!
1. Ticketmaster launches NFT integration
The world’s biggest ticket site is experimenting with token-gated ticket purchases.
It starts with Avenged Sevenfold’s upcoming tour. If you own their NFT, you get first access to tickets and seat selection. Read my thread below for more details.
My Morning Jacket, Griffyn and Sigur Ros also tapped into Ticketmaster last week using Web3 tech platform Medallion to execute presale ticket campaigns giving first access to their NFT fan clubs.
2. A new way to buy and sell music NFTs?
Leading Web3 music platform Sound.xyz just launched Sound Swap — a new way to buy and sell music NFTs. It works like this:
24 hour open edition at 0.005 ETH.
Then a dynamic price curve begins.
Collectors can continue to mint but the price rises.
As more demand comes in, collectors can sell instantly into the price curve.
It’s a little complicated so check out the full blog post to learn more.
If it works, it will bring liquidity to a currently illiquid secondary market.
The first artist to try it was Reo Cragun. He sold 1,500+ NFTs in the first 24 hours and now the price is steadily rising.
3. Surprise Grimes NFT on Zora
Grimes dropped a free NFT on Zora to celebrate a DJ set at Ultra Festival. The ‘Gen 1 Avatars’ will unlock quests, digital experiences and exclusive music.
45,000 have been minted so far and there’s one day left on the open edition.
4. Chainsmokers airdropped a VIP track to token holders
Since launching their free NFT on Royal in 2022, Chainsmokers have added a ton of value to their holders. This week, they airdropped a VIP version of ‘Roses’ to their collectors.
5. Probably a Label launches apparel product
Warner Records’ Web3 imprint Probably a Label dropped a t-shirt collection this week. Featuring the infamous Napster lawsuit, the tee includes an NFC chip so you can tap it with a smartphone and unlock digital extras.
6. Royal captures viral hits in real-time
Producer Maddix released a viral hit in October last year, racking up 20 million streams in four months. Web3 music platform Royal was able to capture the momentum, offering streaming royalties in the track via NFTs and it’s now trending on Royal’s marketplace.
7. Music curation catches fire in Web3
We’re increasingly seeing new ‘scenes’ pop up around distinct genres and sounds in the independent Web3 music space.
Sound of Fractures, A UK artist just launched ‘Wild Awake’ — a community built around a shared love of electronic music, taking inspiration from independent labels like Warp Records, Ninja Tune and XL.
Another fresh example is JarrodT123 who is deep in the hip-hop culture of Web3 music. He’s curating ‘Mixtape Legends.’
