gm music fans,
Faster, affordable and more accessible.
That’s the trajectory of Web3 music at the moment as Layer 2 summer continues to bring down transaction fees.
This week, Zora is in the spotlight with the launch of its own L2 chain and a string of high-profile music drops (including the first ever live video footage from a Coachella performance).
Let’s get straight into it!
Listen to all your music NFTs in one place. Spinamp pulls music from lots of different platforms to give you a simple experience for listening and playlisting music.

1. Zora Network arrives with 3 huge music drops
Zora is the beating heart of Web3 culture. From Grimes’ recent drop to Latasha’s record-breaking music video to our own recent music trailer with KOTA, Zora is a key part of onchain music culture.
We recently teased that Zora was planning its own layer 2 to tackle expensive gas fees. Now it’s here.
Zora Network is branded as ‘Ethereum+’ making it faster and cheaper to mint and collect. Unlike other platforms that have adopted existing L2s like Optimism or Polygon, Zora has opted to build its own on top of Optimism’s OP stack.
To celebrate the launch, we’ve highlighted three big music drops on the new network:
a. COLORSXSTUDIO
The YouTube channel with 6.7 million million subscribers is coming to Zora. COLORS COLLECT is the new Web3 brand that will allow fans to collect live music sessions, starting next week with Bellah, Bryann, Erick the Architect, Rema, RIMON, and YEИDRY.
b. Heno live at Coachella
Rapper Heno just dropped the live video of Neybors recorded at Coachella 2023. To our knowledge it’s the first live Coachella footage onchain. Heno teased the audio through a campaign on Lens Protocol before dropping the full video on Zora.
c. Latasha ‘REVOKE THEE‘ video
Latasha is the queen of music videos onchain. She’s back with an open edition of ‘REVOKE THEE’ at 0.008 eth.
2. Free mint from NOISE DAO
NOISE is the leading DAO in the music space, with a combined $2.7 million to invest into artists and the music ecosystem (read our exclusive interview with the DAO here).
Over the last few months Noise has been rolling out a compilation album featuring leading musicians in Web3. The album is now complete, ending the series with a free mint collaboration with rapper Reo Cragun.
Every week we bring you the latest developments from Lens Protocol — the Web3 social layer where a thriving music community is growing.
Blogging and long-form articles come to Lens! A new writing app called T2 has launched on Lens Protocol. Think of it like Medium or Mirror but with all the composable benefits of the Lens ecosystem. For example, when you publish an article on T2, it will automatically populate to all your followers on Lenster. No need to build a whole new audience like you do on Medium.
This one is quite close to my heart. It’s become impossible to share links to my writing on Twitter because the algorithm kills any engagement to posts that contain a Substack link. Lens is a step towards fixing this problem because all apps are interoperable from day one.
I’ll be publishing two deep dive articles on T2 in the coming weeks. Get ahead of the curve and check it out.
3. Music streaming calculator
DJ and producer 3LAU’s music platform Royal has launched a streaming calculator so artists can estimate their future earnings. By doing this they can help price their drops for royalty share NFTs.
For example, Diplo’s “Don’t Forget My Love'“ is valued at $1.15 million.
4. Biggest music NFT mint ever
Last week we guessed that Sound.xyz had its biggest week ever after integrating Optimism L2. Well… we can confirm it’s true!
A free mint for the track V Buterin by Optimism Collective and producer Gigamesh ended the week with 750,000 collects — a record for any music NFT.
5. Burn to reveal
Virtual artist Angelbaby from the Hume Collective record label just launched a cool activation. If you own one of their ‘Before You’ NFTs, you can now burn it to reveal a new cover art and a guest feature from superstars PRETTYMUCH.
6. A music game?
Music collective WavWRLD has teased a gaming experience that allows you to collect songs from live performances. Originally slated for this week, the mint has been postponed but keep your eye on this one.
7. Headphone Homies
A music-based profile-pic collection launches today. Headphone Homies is a series of characters with music traits like headphones and beat machines.
8. Songcamp launches new website
Songcamp is one of the most important music collectives in Web3. They are a group of artists that host songwriting camps and put the resulting music onchain, famously culminating in the Chaos Packs last year. Songcamp just launched its new website here.
